The Marilyn Denis Show
I am a huge advocate of deleting the stigma around mental health. So much so, last year I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to prove it. This summer... well, that is up to you!
On this Marilyn Denis Show "I'll Talk":
What if what you ate at breakfast helped to form your thoughts and emotions by lunch!? It can! Many foods boost your serotonin levels. I'd share them with you.
What if fast food contributed to your depression!? There is a direct link between nutrition, disease, and MENTAL health!
A person who suffers from depression or anxiety usually has a chemical imbalance, a nutrient deficiency, or it may be a symptom of a more complicated psychological disorder. But nearly any mental or emotional imbalance may be due - at least in part - to an underlying nutrient deficiency.
In particular, the following can help:
- B complex (science is learning a lot more these days about b12 in particular)
- Omega-3 fatty acids
- To me, omega-3 DHA as "brain juice", since so much of our brains are physically made up of it. DHA makes up 40% of brain fat and improves intelligence, cognitive function, mood, and reduces risk of depression, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and generally supports “healthy aging". The popular Framingham Study showed high DHA are levels linked to lower dementia risk. DHA is also vital to pregnant/nursing moms, especially in the last 3 months of pregnancy and first 3 months of life. But, DHA turnover in the brain is still high during adulthood.
Helpful Amino Acids:

SAMe (natural mood regulator)
Herbs:
Grifonia Seed Extract (5HTP)
St Johns Wort
Homeopathics:
Argentum Nitricum (anti-anxiety effects when properly matched)
Gelsemium (sedative effects when properly matched)

It is very important to note that there are possible negative effects of combining a 'natural medicine' routine with convention prescriptions. Drug-herb and drug-nutrient interactions is a good conversation to have. Many people who are desparate to find solutions to their psychological challenges may try anything - even if that includes mixing medication with natural medicines and often along with street drugs and alcohol.
