Question:

Is it unsafe to take corticosteriods and probiotcs?

I have asthma I want to take probiotics to help with the inflammation. I am also currently taking an inhaler that is a corticosteroid. I want to know if it is safe to take an inhaler and take probiotics at the same time? I was reading online that if you are taking corticosteroids it can be unsafe to take probiotics.

Hi. Coriticosterioids and probiotics have been used as a treatment for ulcerative colits and that is injested cotricosteroids which would be a larger dose and more direct interaction than you would experience in an inhaler . Probiotics help with asthma prevention. Also magnesium can also help reduce asthma attacks by breaking up mucus ion the lungs. Please note calcium promotes the production of mucus. So make sure you diet contains a balanced ratio of caliucm and magnesium. Most nuts seeds green leafy vegetables are well balanced with both. Dairy has a lot of calcium and only a little magnesium so if you consume a lot of dairy consider taking a magnesium supplement to balance it the ratio. Gook luck.
