Hi Probiotics can work wonders if you are deficient in good bacteria and they are worth a try. A good brand is Renew Life or New Roots Herbal. Try a low does at first and then work up to higher dose to make sure your body likes the product. Digestive enzymes are also a good idea to take in conjuction with the probiotics. Inulin fibre can help. It is gentle and feed the good bacteria. It is found both as a supplement or in foods such as Jerusalem artichokes, chicory, garlic and onions. However, if you notice more flare-ups during periods of stress, then try GABA, the supplement form of a neruotransmitter in our body normally associated with the brain and /or 5HTP which converts to serotonin, another neurotransmitter. We have four times the number of the same neurotransmitters in our gut that are in our brain so it is not your imagination if stress exacerbates your IBS. New IBS supplements now contain GABA and serotonin along with fibre and probiotcs. Give them a try and se what happens - you may have to play with amounts and combinations of these supplements to get the right scenario for you but do not exceed the amount on the bottles. Good luck.
